Daniele Santos

Graduated in Law, I work as an official of justice in the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro. The heterogeneous reality that I found at the Regional Forum of Bangu, where I have been working since 2002, brought a need for reflection on the various dogmas that I brought with me from the undergraduate program. The materiality of the application of Law, in the practice of the function of an official of justice, showed the existence of "realities", "worlds", "courts of justice of Rio de Janeiro". The Law with a capital "L" gave way to "rights", which are constructed differently depending on the actors involved. It was from this point of view that I started my Dsc research in the program of History of Sciences, Techniques and Epistemology. I looked for a place where it was possible to see more clearly the presence of heterogeneous actors in the network in which the rights circulates. It was not long before this search took me from the reality of Bangu to the Supreme Court. Since then I have been studying the public hearings held in that court, in which scientists ("experts") from the most diverse areas are called upon to speak. My reflection is based on the idea that, in some cases, the judicial process can be treated as an instrument that enters the scenes of the construction of the techno-scientific fact and becomes part of it, intervening in the options and decisions that configure the scientific fact in its eventual stabilization (provisional). My research theme is how magistrates, procedural parties and experts will meet and co-produce science and law.
